Tuition and Fees

The cost of attending McMaster Divinity College is still far below most seminaries in Canada.  We recently conducted a survey and found that McMaster Divinity College is the most affordable evangelical seminary in Canada. We also have one of the best financial aid programs in the country!

The levels in each program have been determined as follows:

Master of Divinity and Diploma in Ministry Programs

Students in the Master of Divinity or Diploma in Ministry program will be designated Level 1 until 30 units have been completed.

Master of Theological Studies

Students in the Master of Theological Studies program will be designated Level 1 until 30 units have been completed.

Certificate and Occasional Students
Certificate and occasional students are considered Level 1 throughout the duration of their course requirements.

Note: Level 1 students remain in their level designation from September through to the end of April.  The next registration period after the academic year is complete, the student will then be eligible to move into the Level 2 designation providing the unit measure listed above has been completed for their program.  This is a standard set without exception.  Students passing the Level 1 threshold mid academic year will remain within that level until the academic year is complete.  Transfer credits are not counted within the Level 1 designation.

There is a box on the registration form (beside the program name) which will indicate your level.

The Cost of Education at McMaster Divinity College

McMaster Divinity College has an annual budget of $2.1 million. The primary sources of our revenue include the following:

  • 46% - the management of our own investment funds
  • 28% - fees from students and other academic services and courses
  • 12% - the Province of Ontario
  •   6% - the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec
  •   5% - donations from our generous supporters
  •   3% - other forms of income

These figures indicate that much of the money that is generated to finance the on-going work of McMaster Divinity College does not come directly from student fees or from immediate contributions, but instead from the wise use of the resources that have been entrusted to the College through the years by various people, churches, foundations and families. These endowments have made it possible for the College to continue to operate.

The cost of educating a single full time student or equivalent at McMaster Divinity College is over $16,500 per year. The tuition and fee rate for a Canadian full time student is $5,340.82 per year, one of the lowest rates for an equivalent institution in all of North America. When you compare the amount that is charged in tuition and fees, the amount of money from this revenue is not able to meet the costs of education at the College.

This means that every student at the College is in fact a beneficiary of significant subsidized educational support. We know you join us in valuing these sources such as direct donations of College supporters, the Province of Ontario and the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec.
