Present Research Interests

  • Pastoral practice for the postmodern church (particularly as it relates to mission and evangelism)
  • The church and culture (With a particular interest in exploring exile as a motif for the church's self understanding and ministry in Western culture)
  • Theological Reflection (With a particular interest in the possibilities of theological reflection for the practice of ministry and spiritual formation).
  • Homiletics (With a particular interest in exploring the idea of preaching as art and various ways to present a sermon in a postmodern, post Christian context)

Present Research Projects

I am currently developing for publication my recently completed PhD dissertation on the topic of a Biblical Theology of Exile for the Canadian church today.  In this study I explore the motif of exile as a viable way for the church in Canada to understand itself and how the exilic experience of Israel and the early church can inform our own identity and ministry as contemporary Canadian Christians.

I am also begining work on a variety of collaborative projects in the areas of Theological Reflection in Ministry and the Emerging Church in Canada.
