Centre for Religion and Aging

**The Centre for Religion and Aging is no longer functioning.   Please see the Events page for details on other upcoming events at MacDiv.

McMaster Divinity College established a Centre for Religion and Aging to serve the needs of Seniors in the churches of Ontario and Quebec, and to help those who serve among them—both lay and ordained—to carry out a more effective ministry. The Centre has functioned in relationship with the McMaster University Centre of Gerontological Studies. McMaster University has been designated by the Provincial Government of Ontario as a centre of excellence in the area of gerontology.

Workshops, seminars, lectures and other events have been offered both at the Divinity College and off-campus. Ministers and churches were invited to use the Centre for consultation purposes and to look upon it as their resource.

Centre for Religion and Aging Workshops have included:

  • 1996 - Worship with the Frail Elderly
  • 1997 - Equipping Spiritual Caregivers
  • 1998 - Spiritual Development in the Final Stages of Life
  • 1999 - Seniors to Seniors: Pastoral Care
  • 2000 - Bruised Reeds and Dimly Burning Wicks (Alzheimer’s)
  • 2001 - The Incredible Gift of Aging: Women and Men and the Spirit Within
  • 2002 - Faith Community Response to Abuse of Older Persons
